Baidi City is located in Chongqing Fengjie Qutang gorge mouth of the North bank of the Yangtze River, fengjie east baidi Mountain, the three Gorges famous tourist resort. Originally known as Ziyang City, it was built by Gongsun Shu, who took over Shu territory in the late Western Han Dynasty. Gongsun Shu was named Bai Di, so the famous city was called bai Di City. Bai Di City is the best place to observe the magnificence of Kuimen. Famous poets in the past dynasties, such as Li Bai, Du Fu, Bai Juyi, Liu Yuxi, Su Shi, Huang Tingjian, Fan Chengda and Lu You, all visited The White Emperor and traveled to Kuimen, leaving a large number of poems, so the White Emperor City has the reputation of "poetry city". At the end of the Western Han Dynasty (206 bC-AD 22), Gongsun said that he had built a city on a hill in the state of Shu. Because the well in the city often gave off white gas, like a white dragon, he named himself The White Emperor and named the city the White Emperor.
After Gongsun Shu died, the local people built a temple on the mountain and erected a statue of Gongsun Shu, which was called the White Emperor Temple. Because gongsun Shu was unorthodox and was named as a false name, in the seventh year of the Ming Dynasty (1512), the governor of Sichuan destroyed the statue of Gongsun Shu and offered sacrifices to the gods of River, Earth and Ma Yuan, thus changing the name to "Three Temples of merit". In the 20th year of the Reign of Emperor Jiajing of the Ming Dynasty (1533), statues of Liu Bei and Zhuge Liang were sacrificed, named "Justice Temple". Later, statues of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei were added, gradually forming a pattern that there was no White Emperor in the Temple, but long sacrificial figures of Shu Han.
On May 25, 2006, baidi City, as an ancient building from the Ming dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, was approved by The State Council to be listed in the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
Bai Di City, formerly known as Ziyang City, the name of Bai Di City first appeared in the late Western Han Dynasty. When Wang Mang usurped the throne, his general Gongsun Shu seized Sichuan, claiming himself king of Shu, and stationed troops there to store grain. In the land of Abundance, Gongsun Shu gradually expanded his power, became ambitious and had the heart of an emperor. When he arrived at the mouth of the Qutang Gorge, he saw that the terrain was difficult to attack and easy to defend. Later Gongsun Shu heard that there was a white crane well in the city, from which often came out a white mist, like a white dragon, soaring into the sky. Gongsun Shu mystified, said that this is "white dragon out of the well", is his future enthronement Jackie chan's omen. Therefore, in 25 AD, he called himself White Emperor, and built his capital here. The ziyang city he built was named White Emperor City, and the mountain was also renamed White Emperor Mountain. In 36, Gongsun Shu and Liu Xiu fought for the kingdom.
In 37, Liu Xiu, the first emperor of the Eastern Han Dynasty, launched an attack on Shu. Gongsun Shu was defeated and killed in battle. The white Emperor city was also reduced to ashes. In order to remember the white Emperor, the Shu people specially built a temple on the White Emperor Mountain, and enshrined the image of the White Emperor. This is the White Emperor Temple.
In 221, Liu Bei, emperor of the Shu and Han states of The Three Kingdoms, took revenge for Guan Yu by launching an army against Wu. About before the Tang Dynasty, bai Di temple was added to worship Liu Bei ancestral temple and Worship Zhuge Liang temple. In the Ming Dynasty, gongsun Shu's statue was destroyed and replaced with gold-plated statues of Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. From then on, "there was no White Emperor in the White Emperor City, and the White Emperor temple offered sacrifices to Emperor Liu xian". Baidi temple is on display in the "Liu Bei Tugu" large clay sculpture. There are statues of Guan Yu, Zhang Fei and Zhuge Liang in the temple, but the name "White Emperor Temple" has been used to this day.
